One of my favorite early summer joys is fresh melons.. ripened by the sun and full of sweetness, aroma, and flavor.
Fields can be found everywhere...
The ripe ones get picked every morning...
and delivered straight away to the vegetable stalls.
Choosing the right one is great fun and fresh melon for breakfast is a wonderful way to start the day. Melon and Parma ham is one of my favorite starters on warm summer evenings, the fresh sweetness and aroma of the fruit goes perfectly with the mild and savory flavor of the ham, which I prefer wafer-thin and loosely placed on top of the sliced melon. A wonderful entrée dish to share with a group of friends over some iced rosé.

ReplyDeleteIf you look at the top of the melon (where the stem is) you'll see a circle where all the vertical stripes of the fruit come together. If the circle has started to crack & seperate and the melon is nice & heavy, it is ready to eat!
