Scarf it Up - Drapes

If it were not for the calender (and DS's building anticipation) I would not believe it is Christmas in five days time. With so many trees still holding onto their leaves and with another spell of mild weather, it feels more like early November than Christmas time.

Although my shawl ring collection has been out for some time, I never got round to introduce them, and since it is too warm for GMs right know, I have been playing with 90 Carrés instead.

With the shawl rings, the 90 Carrés can be worn in a loose and soft style, and the effect is more like draping than knotting. The key is to fold the scarf into a wide and loose basic bias fold, followed by securing the ends with the basic slide
As above, only looser and twisting the folded scarf before securing the ends, leaving one end longer

Capsule pieces: jeans and pastel sweater
Accessories: Courbettes et Cabrioles 90 Carré and MT collection horn bracelet in marron/cream
Scarf tying method: 90 Carré in a loose basic bias fold, secured in a basic slide with a MT Collection shawl ring in sunshine honey horn

as first drape, only worn lower and looser

  1. Goes to show that when you think you can put things aside until the next cold/warm spell, you really should leave them out handy so you can do all sorts of things. Shawl rings with a 90, a Grande ring with a Twilly...the mind boggles. ;-) I really wouldn't have tried the shawl ring with a regular scarf, but now I will. Thanks for the idea!

To the people at H: Please re-issue Courbettes et Cabrioles. Is it really too much to ask???

  4. Thank you for the great post, MaiTai. I have tried the big shawl ring with 90 cm scarves and really like the soft effect. It looks so generous and casual.

  5. So true, my dear Laura! To find unexpected use for cherished items is such a wonderful sunshine moment. Remember the collier knot with a 90 scarf in the heat of the summer.. hope to find many more of these :) Have a most fun time playing <3

Dearest CS, the shawl rings are back! And I second your request, as long as the horses don’t turn out in neon multi colors ;)

Many thanks, dear NiniKnows! And thank you for the wonderful mousse knot too, looking forward to seeing what you’ll come up with next!

Merci, my dear FF. A very merry Christmas to you and your family x

So happy to hear, dearest Maedi! Thanks so much for the report back, I find the effect of the shawl ring on 90 Carrés amazing too. My house will be full at Christmas, and until then I’m up to my eyeballs with baking and preparing. Hope to go in January though, looking so much forward to seeing the new windows at FSH. Ich wünsche Dir ein frohes Weihnachtsfest! <3

  6. This looks beautiful - I love how the looser drape in the shawl ring allows more of the scarf to be seen. A great look! Enjoy your mild weather!

  7. Many thanks, dear Mrs Exeter! I also love how it opens up the design. I should be decorating cookies, but can't help sneaking back to the scarf drawer to see how all the others come out in a loose drape ;)

  16. One of my favourites on you, dearest MaiTai (along with Aux Pays des Epices, and Cent Plis). I so hope they will reissue this one soon!

Joyeux Noel to you and your wonderful family, and best wishes for the coming year! May it be full of laughter, love and orange boxes without topses :-)

  17. So very pleased to hear you are enjoying the mousse knot, MaiTai! :-) I tried the same knot with a 90cm, and a shawl ring. Perhaps nice on cooler days when a bit more silk around the neck feels cozy. And especially nice with a well loved scarf, with a softer drape.

And how it makes such a wonderfully full and relaxed statement with the 90 Carrés!! Only you could have created it, our dear brilliant MaiTai <3

Dear Frances, I join you in the hope for a CetC reissue! The last one was in 1993, so it’s been a while.. Have a most wonderful and happy 2012 (with some orange boxes too).

NiniKnows, thank you for sharing your lovely ideas, will try the mousse knot with a 90 next! I can imagine it being wonderful with older treasures, and might try it with a DipDye too :)

Dearest Scarf Enthusiast, so happy to hear you enjoy the new looks and drapes, thank you so much for the sweet praise for the latest addition. Hope this holiday season is most joyous and happy for you. With much love xx
