Just before Christmas, the local markets are dotted with stalls
celebrating the outcome of the autumn olive harvest... producers present
their new olives and the first oil pressings of the Year.
Chestnuts are another winter market staple
Beautiful bright green Picholine olives
Oysters from nearby Bouzigues are part of every market scene in our area
Olive bread made in a traditional artisan way, and of course delicious when dipped into fresh olive oil!
Oh how I adore your market posts! The olives, oils, and chestnuts ( those earthy tasting little gems!) evoke the traditional tastes of the holiday. It seems that as I age, I want to hold onto the traditions and memories of Christmas past, and you're making some new and lovely ones for DS.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a holiday filled with joy et bonne année et bonne santé!
So happy you enjoyed coming along to the market! Christmas in our house is a bit like Europe in a nutshell...because of the different backgrounds in our family, we have traditions for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (some European countries celebrate on the 24th and others on the 25th). DS is certainly not complaining! ;-) Bonnes fêtes to you too!
