Autumn additions

Apart from replacing a few items with similar staples (jeans, sweaters etc), my autumn acquisitions consist of just three pieces so far. It may not seem a lot, but they go a long way.. opening up many new ways to mix and combine, and giving my wardrobe a wonderful new twist.

Silk blouse by Sport Max

Woman's Hayword Cardigan (detail) by American Vintage, with Zebra Pegasus 90 carré

Pale pink sweater with silk layer hem detail (here in silver) by Mint Velvet

Mixed with black

Mixed with pastels

Our temperatures are already cool and autumn like in the mornings and evenings, but by mid-day it gets warm and summery again (with temperatures climbing to 25˚celsius). Most days I dress in light capsule wardrobe pieces, and then supplement them with various layers to adapt to the changes in temperature. The scarf fur collar is perfect to keep the neck warm against the early morning autumn chill, and later in the day, the mousseline is wonderfully light and airy for solo wear.

Capsule wardrobe pieces: pale pink sweater and beige trousers
Accessories: Hermès 'Belles de Mexique' PM mousseline and Clic-Clac H enamel bracelet in bourgogne.
Shoes: patent leather flats in beige
Scarf tying method: basic bias fold

Mixed with navy

Capsule wardrobe pieces: pale pink sweater, dark blue jeans and trench
Accessories: Hermès 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carré, Clic-Clac H enamel bracelet in bourgogne and Picotin MM/22 in etoupe
Shoes: patent leather flats in beige
Scarf tying method: Cowboy knot

As above, only with a brown leather jacket instead of the navy trench coat.

  1. How beautiful style sheets, dear MaiTai! As always you have chosen very pretty additions to your wardrobe! As we missed you yesterday (at last monday was the best day of the week...) I guessed, that you were at the inauguration of the new Gehry-Building in Paris... When I saw it today on tv I tried to find you between all the visitors (but without any success).

I really enjoy your picture of the 'magical online salon’, which you described in your last comment. I think you have accurately described this wonderful place!
All the best from germany, Claudia

    1. I'm so sorry I didn't make it in time! Wish the reason was the Gehry inauguration (love his work), but it was just such a busy day.. to the point of overwhelming! Must find a more reliable day to post. So thrilled you ladies kept Le Salon buzzing x

  2. Ok, my friend, so it took a little longer to get this post up...hello, it would have taken me year to put this together! You have gifted us with a beautiful collection of style sheets! I love everything, color ways, new additions to your wardrobe...EVERYTHING!
I have been adding new silk blouses lately, myself! The new longer silhouette adds a new fresh touch...dressing up or casual! I love your selection, along with the cardigan, tierd top and of course, the trench!
The time and effort that you put forth here, for us, is unparalleled! Thank you so very much for spoiling us on a routine basis!
While you were busy with all that you do,many of us had plenty to say in your absence;-)
I adore coming here to 'visit' with new friends, near and far...great fun! Thank you, darling MT, for being the anchor that brings us all together! Heartfelt hugs, T xx

I have enjoyed it for a long while and I am enjoying now at the same level as the first day.
P.S. Is there any disorder known as a "MT blog addiction"? I suspect this in my case, if this exists :)

  3. Well, I don't know how you find time to shop given all that you have on your plate, but you certainly found some lovely pieces that do you and your Hermès justice.

I love the combination of the edgy leather motorcycle jacket and the ultra feminine palest of pale pink sweater with the silk layered hem. It's just right, especially with the new Zebra pet.

And, oh dear, I so love the simple and elegant white silk shirt. I crave white silk shirts, but within two minutes of putting one on, I seem to attract half a dozen ink marks, coffee splashes, salad dressing dribbles, or the darn toner cartridge explodes. I can't keep them pristine, so I shall be doomed to always wearing black and "mud" colors. But, you probably don't attract clothing disasters like I do!

At least I can admire this wonderful classic on you. I'm almost tempted to give it one more try and shop for the perfect white silk shirt, but on second thought, I guess I'd better stick to "mud."

Well done and thank you for generously sharing your newest looks with all of us. Would you consider designing a clothing line next? I'm not joking. I'm dead serious.

With envy and much love, of course,
    Jerrine

    1. I know what you mean about the white or cream silk shirts! I learned about the Tide stain remover pen last year...it is a Godsend! It is smaller than a magic marker and pops into your purse easily! Just a swipe over any stain on the lighter colors, and voilà,magic marker indeed!
I love the darker colored silk blouses this season, too!
Seriously...a clothing line...well we can dream!
      Have a great week!
      Big hug,
      T xx

    2. I'm just death on white shirts, Trudye. I had one of those stain remover pens when they first came out, but I made a bigger mess. I'm betting they've improved them, though, so at your suggestion, I'll pick one up soon - like tonight.

Today, I'm dressed in black and "mud," though. Oh, no, wait. I just looked at the jacket, and it's actually a deep bronze/green - not quite mud but almost. I wish I could look like MT - always pristine and chic.

A good week to you, as well, and of course, a big hug,
      Jerrine

    3. Yes, darling Jerrine, give it a try again...wonder sticks! I got the tip from the ladies at the Anne Fontaine store here...they use it to get makeup stains off of the collars of their shirts! Hope it works out for you! If so, keep one close at hand;-)
Loving the sound of your outfit today! The colors are very much in my wheelhouse, too!

      Delete
    4. Well, Trudye, dear, if it's good enough for Anne Fontaine, then it's definitely good enough for me. I should probably buy a dozen, though, and stash them in the car, at home, office and all the various handbags - maybe put one on a chain and wear it around my neck, too!

Have you used LeBlanc Silk Wash on your H. scarves, lingerie and silk blouses? It is the most marvelous stuff, and it seems to make anything silk look even more lovely. I buy it by the gallon!

And, I truly am going to try and break away from my "mud" colors. I say that until the next gorgeous black jacket or sweater catches my eye. Hopeless, I'm afraid, but as usual, MT has inspired me.

      Best,
      Jerrine

    5. Needless to say, yes, best bought in multiples! Maybe you can attach to a Farondale necklace or to a leather cord a la Hemes;-) we should order a case and split the cost, dear Jerrine;-)
Thanks for the Le Blanc washing tip! I use the products by The Laundress for all my laundry needs. Their Delicate Wash is da bomb for silks and lingerie. But, I am not stuck in my ways and will definitely check out Le Blanc!
I am so inspired by MT and her foray into these new colors, too! I tend to shy away from the pastels,as they tend to wash me out! But, the soft pink of the tiered top and the ZP have my eye!
Sorry about your Buly order and the website...they must have the same webmaster as Hermes! Hermes has to have the most frustrating one on the web!
I think it sounds like fun to wait until your trip to Paris to do an actual sniff and purchase! Are you celebrating a special occasion next November in Paris? Just being there is occasion enough and I know you are counting the days until you get there!
Hope you and all here have or have had a great day...ramping up to Halloween we are! Darling MT has gifted us with some really great Halloween posts in the past, clever one that she is!

    6. Maybe I can get MT to design us something for those Tide pens, Trudye . . . in her spare time, of course.

I haven't tried The Laundress, buy hey, I'm not so rigid that I couldn't be persuaded to change, or at least I like to think I'm not. I would like to think that way about the pastels, too, but like you, I tend to feel washed out in them and always think I need some stronger color . . . or, of course, the old fallback - "mud" color.

No special reason to go to Paris next November other than I haven't been in a couple of years and miss it, and I love to go that time of year when it's brisk and the crowds are much lighter.

Yes, Halloween! I have to stop and buy the rest of the treats tonight before they've completely sold out.

I'm going to order the wool/cashmere detergent, the bleach alternative and white detergent for my white bed and table linens and the surface cleaner for granite and stainless counter tops. I'm sending the bill to you, dearest!

    12. Same here, haverfordgal. If I could stay away from everything, I'd have pristine white shirts - maybe live in some sort of bubble? Well, the chances of that happening are slim to none, but at least soon I'll be prepared for most any catastrophe of the laundry nature.

I guess The Laundress is going to have to pay dear Trudye a commission for bringing in two new customers!

    5. Yes, Monica, please jump right in. Your English is absolutely fine. We know exactly what you're talking about!

Actually, I am in awe of you and Catherine and Claudia and all the other ladies, MT included, who do so well with our rather complicated language. I wish I could speak any other language well enough to converse and write it as you all do. I know smatterings of Italian, Spanish and French, but just enough to travel with, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately, here in the States, a second language usually isn't taught until high school or college, and by the time, it's difficult for the brain to learn. Things are changing now, though, and more and more often, language is being taught in the elementary school grades. Bravo to that!

So, please don't be shy, join right in and know that we admire you all for doing just that.

      Sunday evening cheers,
      Jerrine

I, too, feel deficient in the fact that I am unable to write or converse in a second language as many at Le Salon do so well! I am in awe of the ladies here!
In Texas, our teachers are having a tough time of it in many schools, as many of the children do not speak English as a first language! Yes, we are way behind in education in the U.S.!
I would love to try to retrain my old brain ! I pray it is not too late;-)

Wishing all here a wonderful week ahead,
      T

    7. Morning, Trudye, dear,

Yes, I imagine that your Texas teachers are struggling, as ours in Georgia are, too, and for the same reasons. With the huge influx of Spanish-speaking people, even our billboards now appear in Spanish. Since my college Spanish is nearly forgotten, it's a darn good thing that the English version is still there, as well.

I want to retrain my tired old brain, but I'm too tired, lol.

Well, I guess I had better get back to work. I've been playing with my new lacquer scarf rings, which I found in my mailbox this morning. They're SO pretty!

thank you so much for your kind words!
Here in germany all pupil have to learn two foreign languages, first english and second latin, french or something else. I always loved to learn languages and so I took them all plus spanish. Unfortunately now I feel to know of all languages a bit but not enough at all... Here we have many turkish people which have to learn german as second language. I think our teacher have the same problems as yours... It seems so as if all countries have similar situations.
      A wonderful week ahead, Claudia

    10. No, Trudye, until I retire, my brain is always going to be tired, I'm afraid, as it has to operate at top speed for about ten hours a day, five days a week (However, if I would stop indulging in Hermès so frequently, I could retire. Not gonna happen, though!)

My rings arrived on Saturday, as well, but since I had them shipped to my office address, I wasn't here to play with them until yesterday. They are really lovely, and I agree with you about quality and depth of color. I put one on immediately!

Claudia, I admire you for learning all those languages. We were required to take just one in high school and one in college, so I chose Latin (later, Spanish in college), and even though, it's a dead, unspoken language, I never regretted it, as it is the root of so many modern languages. I really began to understand that fact when I studied Italian.

      Veni, vidi, vici!

      Best,
      Jerrine

  16. Dear Monica, I think you must have many fans too! I always love your comments -- so genuine and lively. Please accept my gratitude and admiration for the way you push yourself to write in English, so that more of us are included in the conversation. Thanks as always, of course, to Mme Maitai for setting the tone for such a delightful salon!

  17. Thank you Mai Tai for the beautiful capsule wardrobe pieces. I love your additions this fall and only wish I could find that lovely pink top in the United States! And, if Kettlewell Colours would open up a store near Chicago, I'd be all set! I so look forward to seeing your posts and all the wonderful comments! Having poured over all the previous capsule wardrobes and seeing how you've mixed neutral clothes with scarves in so many ways, I feel like I can get dressed in the morning with ease!
