May

I hope everyone's enjoying a wonderful May and the explosion of blossoms and flowers that come with it. Ours has been partly summery and warm, but we've also had some cold wet windy days. My birthday fell on one of those, so we made up for it with a quick trip to Cannes a couple of days later where we had a lovely lunch on the beach to celebrate.

Magical dusk at the Baie of Cannes, when the Mediterranean sea turns into soft pastels framed by the foothills of the l'Esterel Mountains.

My new CSGM Sous l'Egide de Mars and Kelly Double Tour bracelet in Rose Sekura. Wearing the shawl in a cowboy knot, ends secured in a criss-cross knot. Mini bag: Wallet on Chain by Chanel (perfect for city trips and any other occasion when you want to keep your cards and cash extra safe)

Kelly Double Tour bracelet in Rose Sakura with a Guerlain KissKiss LoveLove lipstick in 570 Coral and a Dior Addict Lip Glow color reviver balm in 210 Holo Pink.

Sous l'Egide de Mars in the basic bias fold which brings out the soft pink, purple and cream colors in the center of the scarf.

Spring make-up additions: Chanel Les Beiges Compact Powder 20, Guerlain Météroides Compact Medium, Guerlain KissKiss as above, Rouge G De Guerlain matte 01 and Dior Addict Lip Glow as above.

I am often asked about my lipstick, and the secret lies in mixing and matching. I use lip liner for definition, but make sure to fill the lips completely to avoid a 'lip-lined' look. My favorite liner pencils are Bois de Rose and Brun Tendre by Mavala. You can match your lipstick to your liner, or experiment by using different color combinations to achieve more depth, and to fine tune the end result to your outfit or scarf.

Chaînes et Gourmettes 70 carré in a criss-cross bow knot. Hermes Chaîne d'Ancre printed enamel bracelet and Farandole necklace.

  1. Beautiful May impressions. Thank you for the nature photos. May to me is almost overwhelming in its beauty, abundance and growth. It is befitting that it is your birthday month and I want to wish you a very happy belated birthday. Half across the world, the weather has been similar, very warm, then cool and rainy around the "Eisheiligen". I just came in from the garden - the roses are about to bloom and there are some critters eating around on the new buds. The photo of the iris with the wild oats is so pretty. Thank you for sharing your make-up and lipstick tips as well and I am excited to learn the new knot.
    Herzliche Gruesse,
    Tanja

  3. Dearest Tai,

oh, the beauty of May! I love the pictures and the pink accents - there must be something in the air as I have been, for the first time in my life, on the pink "kick" recently. Blush pink, shocking pick.... what is not to love!

So happy to see that you spent time in Cannes, your birthday outings have been so very inspiring.

All the best to you and your family, may May bring you abundance of health, creativity and beauty. You look stunning and happy!

So fun to share, and thanks so much also for the good wishes.
Hope you have a wonderful and happy remaining May!

  4. Dear Mai Tai, 10 years ago you wrote "it's just that I don't feel 'me' wearing it" speaking about pink. Happy to see that 10 years later you have finally admitted that you look fabulous in pink !!! Thanks for this beautiful post. Kind regards, Marie-Noelle

    1. You have a very good memory, dear Marie-Noelle! When I wrote this post, I remembered too declaring ten years ago that pink wasn't for me. Lesson learned: things change, and never say never! Trying to think of something I would now 'never'consider. High heels? Deep red lipstick. You never know! Amitiés

  5. Dearest Tai,
pink beauty all around! A very happy colour and so lovely when accompanied by soft blush roses or similarly bright hibiscus. May really is the best birthday month flower wise! Happy to see you did go on a little birthday trip- even in Cannes the pink theme was present! I really enjoy your outfit inspirations, and the new waterfall knot looks very sophisticated and chic. Can’t wait for the how-to...Your new shawl is amazing- it’s so much more attractive on you then it was in the shop. That calls for reconsideration!
After the dry summer last year nature is making up for it with double the amount of rain, all in a few days. Our reward is lush green...
Best wishes for the new year of life,
    Katja

There couldn't be a lovelier backdrop for pink summer flowers than lush green.. now if it could only rain at night and be sunny during the day! So happy you like my new shawl and the pleated waterfall knot, more to come on both. Have a lovely week and blowing some blush rose petals to you xx
